Croatian holidays

When we told our American friends and relatives we were so excited to be off on holiday to Croatia (last week), many of the reactions included "...uh, where's Croatia again?", "....oh. what is in Croatia?" and "is it safe/civilised there?" Leave it to our lovely American lack of awareness about the rest of the world again! It's somehow endearing in an ignorant way though. Not that I am any better; before moving overseas 4 years ago I doubt I knew where Croatia was either!! ;)

But the bottom line is, Croatia is amazing! Very civilised, yes (even very touristy this time of year), and just breathtaking. We spent our time in Dubrovnik and Korcula, both towns with architecture 5-600 years old or more, both walled cities with church steeples and orange tiled roofs that contrast beautifully with the deep blue water of the Adriatic Sea. The colors and views were amazing, and it was a relaxing trip of swimming in the clear, cool water, soaking up sun (my 'bedder'- college housekeeper basically- took one look at me today and exclaimed "crikey, you're brown!", wonderful English quote). They say Croatia gets more hours of sunshine than anywhere in Europe. We also enjoyed the seafood and ice cream (many Italian influences). Will post more photos and a link to more detail soon.

Back to the swing of things with work and individual project now! Hope to find more blogging time after I get into the summer routine. Missing some classmates already!
